Funds to Redevelop Old GM Sites on the way

19 May 2010

As was reported in today’s Detroit News, $800M to clean up abandoned GM sites, and by the Governor,  Granholm hails federal funding, the federal government is putting up some $160 Million to support demolition, remediation and redevelopment of old, shuttered GM sites in Michigan.  Many of these sites have been sitting idle for years.  This potential boost to redevelopment is fantastic and may help sell a number of  sites that Motors Liquidation has been unable to move (they currently list 124 properties for sale).  These sites may still have significant regulatory hurdles to overcome, but this is a huge plus.
