The Solar Impulse

A little over 100 years ago, the Wright brothers piloted a gasoline powered airplane above a wind-swept beach in North Carolina. The first flight lasted 12 seconds and covered 120 feet.  Today come reports that a Swiss adventurer and his team have piloted a solar powered plane, the “Solar Impulse” for one and a half hours including a series of maneuvers as well as taking off and landing safely. The team plans to fly it around the world in 2012. However, the team clearly needs to improve its speed of roughly 28 miles per hour
